In our next edition Ana Albero opens a pet portrait studio at the MFI. Ana's beautiful, warm and imaginative characters, rooms and landscapes were published in newspapers, magazines and books from Tokio over London, Berlin, Paris to New York. She invites you with the following letter and offers additionally a pet portrait afternoon on June 4 where you are invited to bring your pets of all kinds and sizes to get their portraits drawn.

Stripdagen in Haarlem
June 3rd to June 12th 2016


Stripdagen Haarlem is a biannual comic festival in the center of the old city of Haarlem, Netherlands that took place for the first time in 1992. The festival consists of many (free) exhibitions, fairs, discourses, concerts, movie screenings, award festivities and children activities. Every edition the festival is being visited by 25.000 to 30.000 people. In comparison to the many other festivals and events in Haarlem, it attracts many visitors from all over the country, as well as a considerable group of artists, publishers en visitors from abroad.

The Prize
for Illustration 2017 - Sounds of the City
The Association of Illustrators (AOI) in partnership with London Transport Museum (LTM), is delighted to announce that submissions are now open for The Prize for Illustration 2017.

This year the theme is Sounds of the City - an illustrated interpretation of urban sound.

We are surrounded 24/7 by sound in our cities. It shapes our experiences and our moods. Whether it’s the sound of people going about their daily lives – living, working, visiting or enjoying cultural, sporting or musical activities – or the sounds of nature within the city, the exhibition will show the artist’s relationship with sound, heard within the environment of a city context.

Henning Wagenbreth, Professor an der UdK in Berlin und Illustrator, hat am 25. Februar 2016 mit einer Doppelausstellung das Ministerium für Illustration eröffnet und seither sage und schreibe 5 Ausstellungen gezeigt. Die Neueste wird jetzt am 26. Mai eröffnet: Pet portraits von Ana Albero.

Comic-Salon
Vom 26.-28. Mai findet der Internationale Comic-Salon in Erlangen statt. Das Programm sieht bereits sehr vielversprechend aus.

Aktuell
Der Bundesgerichtshof hat verfügt, dass Verlage künftig keine pauschalen Geldausschüttungen von der Verwertungsgesellschaft VG-Wort erhalten werden. Bereits erhaltene Zuwendungen müssen die Verlage zurückzahlen. Das Urteil ist richtig. Die Gelder der Verwertungsgesellschaften sind für die Urheber gedacht, für die Autoren und Illustratoren, nicht für die Verlage. Dennoch kann der Wegfall der Zahlungen fatale Folgen haben, gerade für kleinere Verlage. Der Verleger des Hanser Verlags Jo Lendle über das Urteil und seine Folgen.
